Promoting general corporate social responsibility across the firm, our people and interaction with our markets and local communities is a core aspect of our strategy.
We realise that what can be good for us, can also be good for society and the natural world. Simply put we strive for a positive, more socially conscious way of life, both strategically and culturally, encompassing the entire organisation.
Our corporate and social responsibility activities focus on three main areas:
- Environment
- Community and charities
- Our people
Environment
RSM Tenon has a strong environmental policy and we are always looking for ways in which we can improve this. We have a group of ‘green champions’ within each of our offices, who are responsible for encouraging environmentally friendly behaviour and for collecting ideas on how we can improve our efforts.
We are committed to developing our environmental strategy in the following ways:
-
Reducing carbon emissions: Our aim is to reduce our carbon footprint and so we encourage the use of energy efficient transport including car sharing, public transport and bike schemes. Where possible we promote park and ride services and we also offer our people the option to purchase a bike through the flexible benefits scheme that we operate. All of these help to reduce the firm’s carbon footprint, as well as the carbon footprint of each individual staff member. Where possible we aim to reduce our business miles. This is continually reviewed and monitored at each of the individual offices. We encourage where possible cleaner methods of transport and if public transport can be used, this is encouraged.
-
Waste - Reduce, reuse, recycle: Our aim is to move to cyclical ways of handling waste. We follow the waste hierarchy and aim to reduce, reuse and recycle. We recycle all waste in a manner recommended by local authorities responsible for waste management. Our offices have different bins to aid recycling and we also recycle toner cartridges, mobile telephones, batteries and computer hardware batteries through the appropriate channels. At present the majority of our paper waste is recycled, but our aims are to reduce the usage of paper and move towards electronic as opposed to paper storage.
-
Environmentally friendly materials: We are committed to the efficient use of natural resources. Wherever possible we produce our printed materials – stationery and literature – using environmentally friendly, recycled papers.
-
Energy efficiency: We seek to increase the efficient use of energy and adopt renewable energy sources wherever practicable. This includes turning off equipment when it is not on (PCs, monitors, printers and copiers), switching off lights that are not needed and using daylight wherever possible. In newer offices we are implementing movement sensor lighting. Office thermostats are set at 19 degrees in order to make our energy use more efficient.
-
Cleaning and maintaining office buildings: We have a regular maintenance programme and endeavour to use materials that do not damage the environment.
-
Sourcing of raw materials: We seek to buy our raw materials from sustainable sources when purchasing office equipment and supplies.
Community and charities
RSM Tenon is committed to giving back to our local communities and wholeheartedly believes in supporting local charities. We leave it to the discretion of each office which charities they wish to support and raise money through firm wide events such as ‘dress down day’ or local sporting events and local charity events.
RSM Tenon encourages our people to engage in voluntary and charitable work and recent staff surveys indicate considerable take up in this area. We have our own portal, RSM Tenon Giving which allows staff to bid for funding every month. This has enabled staff to request donations, promote events and circulate news through our own intranet.
Our people
Our people are at the heart of our business so we take their well-being very seriously and recognise that as an employer we can play a major part in maintaining this.
We have strong health and safety procedures including meeting VDU legislation and having systems to ensure we operate to the highest health and safety standards.
RSM Tenon is committed to continual development and advancement of our people. We have our very own training and development programme, the RSM Tenon Academy, which provides structured learning for trainees through to Directors; which includes technical, advisory skills and personal development programmes. Many of our people also have the option of secondments to other service lines, offices and overseas.
We ensure that our people are provided with all the necessary equipment required to enable them to perform their job efficiently. This includes providing them with remote access facility on their laptops so that they can access any files/programmes they might require whilst they are working off-site.
In addition to the equal opportunity, fairness and diversity policies you would expect from a national employer. We also have implemented a number of other initiatives that benefit our people including:
Option to purchase or sell additional holiday each year
- Free eye tests and vouchers towards the cost of glasses should these be required following the eye test
- Flexible working arrangements in our offices enabling employees to work hours outside of the core hours to suit them and providing the option to accrue flexi-time
- An opportunity to apply for sabbatical leave up to a maximum of 12 months once they have completed three years of service
- Option to apply for home-working.
