Bribery and Corruption

The UK Bribery Act (please click here for a summary) places a legal requirement on UK corporates to ensure they have ‘adequate procedures’ in place to prevent bribery; failure to do so carries the possibilities of fines and imprisonment.

RSM Tenon offers services to help mitigate the risk of bribery and corruption occurring within your organisation and demonstrate that you have such ‘adequate procedures’ as required by the Bribery Act 2010. RSM Tenon offer support in the following areas:

  • Compliance - anti-bribery policy and software solutions
  • Training – ensure effective training to relevant staff
  • Assessment – highlighting high risk areas – operationally, geographically or culturally
  • Investigations – investigations into financial irregularities

However, due to the inherent nature of the crime, guaranteed 100% prevention is improbable as collusion aims to evade the internal controls and ‘adequate procedures’, rendering an organisation vulnerable to the errant behaviour of rogue employees. In the event of an occurrence, RSM Tenon can provide experts to assess and investigate the matter efficiently and address the weaknesses in the internal controls effectively.

Why would you need it?

  • You are required by law to have ‘adequate procedures’ in place
  • You are an organisation doing business in the UK, who are committed to good corporate governance
  • You are a director of a board and would like to protect your reputation as well as reduce the risk of your organisation becoming a victim of bribery or corruption
  • You suspect bribery or corruption is occurring in your organisation
